The medical field is one area in which opportunities abound. Some jobs in this area require extensive education and licensing, while with others only a high school education is needed. Somewhere in between are some very good opportunities for rewarding careers. Starting this list of jobs in the medical field are some opportunities that require a minimum of education or experience. Basic CPR training is usually required and often provided by the employer.
Home Assistants do routine housework and/or cooking for clients who cannot do these things for themselves. This may also include running errands and shopping. Home Health agencies often hire for these positions but job offers from private clients are available also. Medical training is not required.
Sitters are people who stay with clients while in the hospital, nursing home or at home. They basically look out for the safety of the patient. Families who do not want their loved one left alone at any time will often hire a sitter. Health agencies sometimes have openings for sitters but ads for sitters from private clients are often in the newspaper. No medical training is required.
Transporters move clients from one location to another. This may be in a hospital where patients need to go to treatments, tests, or surgery. Nursing homes need residents taken to appointments. A special drivers license and a good driving record are required. Training in safe transport of wheelchair users will be needed. The only medical training required is first aid and CPR.
Activity assistants work with the activity director in nursing homes or centers for the handicapped. They direct and aid clients with meaningful activities. Certified Nursing assistants work closely with clients to provide care in the most basic activities of daily living. This care may include bathing, feeding, grooming, and toileting. CNAs work in hospitals, nursing homes, medical centers, and many other venues. Training can be from a local technical school or from the employer. Many nursing homes teach CNA classes then hire those that pass the certification test.
Phlebotomists are the people who draw blood for laboratory tests. They work in hospitals, nursing homes, medical offices, for home health and for insurance companies. Local state technical schools or colleges are the best places to receive this training.
